THE McGLINCHEY BROTHERS

John, Joe, Francis, Bill, and Jim McGlinchey were the nucleus of the Livermore Cowboys, the community's semi-pro basketball team, circa 1920, and were described as "the scourge of the Valley." Defeating the Los Angeles Athletic Club's team while the LA team and prior year national champions were barnstorming through the Bay Area, the Cowboys received national attention. They were invited to play in the national tournament in Kansas City where they won their first game and lost their second to Kansas City Athletic Club, the team moving on to win the national tournament. Thus, the Cowboys were annointed "The Team That Made Livermore Famous."

Members of the Livermore Cowboys basketball team included Coach Joe Aurrocoechea, Jim McGlinchey, Larry Soares, Bill McGlinchey, Sam McKelvey, Joe Grana, Joe McGlinchey, John McGlinchey, and Jack Vukota.

The team was recently inducted into the Livermore Sports Hall of Fame.
